Commemorating RW1's Maiden Voyage From Hong Kong
This cruise marks a milestone in the expansion of this newly-established cruise line, which began operations in June 2022 from Singapore with Genting Dream.
An event was held to commemorate the inaugural sailing from Hong Kong, with over 400 attendees comprising Local and Travel Business Partners, and Media Partners. Gracing the event were also representatives from Resorts World Cruises, including President Mr. Michael Goh, and Chief Operations Officer (COO) Mr. Raymond Lim. They officiated the inaugural sailing alongside Captain Pelle, Master of Resorts World One, and representatives from Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra also made a special appearance at the Inaugural Event aboard the Resorts World One. This is the group’s first performance on a cruise ship, which was livestreamed on the Resorts World Cruises Facebook Page. The group will perform a second time in the evening on the ship’s helipad, during the ship’s departure from Hong Kong.
The Great Return Of Cruising In Hong Kong And The Region
With Resorts World Cruises homeporting the Resorts World One in Hong Kong, the city will once again have a locally-based cruise ship and home-grown cruise brand presence for the first time since 2022. Prior to the restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic, Hong Kong was a regional cruise hub, with a total of 218 ship calls and cruise passenger throughput of more than 903,000 in calendar year 2019, according to a report by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
In a press release by the cruise line, President of Resorts World Cruises, Mr. Michael Goh said “Resorts World One’s maiden voyage today from the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal signifies an important step in the reigniting of Hong Kong’s cruise tourism.” He expressed his gratitude to the Tourism Commission of the Hong Kong S.A.R. and relevant authorities for their support as they pioneered the restart of year-round cruising in Hong Kong.
General Manager (MICE & Cruise) of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr. Kenneth Wong, said “Resorts World Cruises’ establishment of business and homeporting deployment in Hong Kong underlines Hong Kong’s undiminished strength as a regional cruise hub and international tourism destination.” He also highlighted that Resorts World One has already brought over a thousand tourists to Hong Kong, after the conclusion of her 6-Day/5-Night Relocation Cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong.
Initially beginning with cruises to the High Seas, the cruise line will also expand into Kaohsiung in April 2023, with a Dual-Homeport arrangement between Hong Kong and Kaohsiung. The arrangement is expected to yield 126 port calls in Hong Kong and 78 port calls in Kaohsiung.
