Resorts World Cruises is expanding their destination portfolio once again, with the cruise line now setting their sights for Taiwan! In a press release from Resorts World Cruises, the cruise line announced that it will begin cruising to Kaohsiung from Hong Kong on 2- and 3-Night cruises, beginning 02 April 2023. And the good news doesn’t end there.

Just like Genting Dream’s Singapore-Port Klang Dual Homeport operation, Resorts World One will also operate under a similar dual-homeport arrangement, with guests being able to embark on a Resorts World One cruise from both Hong Kong and Kaohsiung. The move broadens Resorts World Cruises’ guest portfolio, and allows them to reach a wider customer base with fewer vessels.

“Resorts World Cruises pioneered the dual homeport ship model for Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (via Port Klang) with the Genting Dream, bringing increased tourists and economic benefits to both destinations,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Executive Chairman of Resorts World Cruises. “Similarly, Hong Kong and Kaohsiung will both benefit from increased number of passengers carried by Resorts World One and increased Fly-Cruise and Rail-Cruise passengers, who will have pre and post cruise stays in either destination,” he added.

Beginnning 02 April 2023, Resorts World One will first sail a series of cruises between Hong Kong and Kaohsiung, with guests able to embark from either port.

And beginning 09 April 2023, RW1 will also add an additional port-of-call in Penghu. The ship will visit the island destination every Tuesday.

Cruise + Land Stay Combinations

Resorts World Cruises is also introducing a Cruise + Land Stay concept with its Hong Kong-Kaohsiung operation, with guests being able to disembark the cruise mid-way for a short stay in either destination. Similar to the one-way cruises between Singapore and Port Klang, these Cruise + Land Stay combination vacations are an alternative to air travel in between the two destinations.

Vacationers departing from Hong Kong on Sundays will have the flexible option to stay in Kaohsiung on Mondays to enjoy a 4-day/3-night land stay in Taiwan. Guests can then re-embark Resorts World One on Thursdays and return to Hong Kong on Friday, creating a 6-day/5-night holiday experience.

Similarly, vacationers departing from Kaohsiung on Thursdays for the 5-day/4-night cruise will also have the option to remain in Hong Kong on Fridays for a 3-day/2-night land stay in Hong Kong. Vacationers can then re-embark the ship on Sunday to arrive in Kaohsiung on Monday.

With a capacity of over 1,856 passengers, the Resorts World One is expected to bring in new stream of potential inbound tourists to Taiwan and Hong Kong. The dual-homeport arrangement is expected to boost the cruise sector and various associated tourism industries.

With 2 sailings a week to Kaohsiung, Resorts World One will make 78 calls in 2023 — a substantial increase compared to approximately 20 cruise ship calls pre-COVID in 2019. And with 3 sailings a week from Hong Kong, Resorts World One will make 126 calls in 2023 — 60% of the calls that Hong Kong had pre-COVID in 2019.
