On 25th November 2023, the Celebrity EDGE from Celebrity Cruises made her inaugural call in Singapore, on her inaugural Asia cruise. The first-in-class ship, with room for more than 2,900 guests arrived sunny shores of Singapore on the tail end of a Dubai-to-Singapore cruise - the second leg of a longer 40-Night repositioning voyage from Europe to Australia.

Introducing Celebrity Edge

Delivered in October 2018, Celebrity EDGE was one of the most highly-anticipated cruise ships ever constructed.

The excitement was warranted. Edge promised new concepts and experiences, some which didn’t exist on any other cruise ship at the time. Her Parabolic Bow, designed for better sea-keeping characteristics and fuel economy, gave her outward appearance a futuristic look. Aboard, venues like Eden and the Magic Carpet were simply unheard of. The humble balcony staterooms and suites were also redefined with the introduction of the Infinite Veranda concept.

Even now, at nearly 5 years old, she maintains a very forward-facing, futuristic and luxurious feel. In 2023, Edge was one of the first cruise ships to ever earn a rating from the Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards.

Exploring Celebrity Edge

Onboard, we were given an opportunity to tour the vessel and see the facilities available to her guests. Take a look at some of the highlights below:

The Magic Carpet

For our visit, The Magic Carpet was positioned at Deck 15. PHOTO: SINGAPORE CRUISE SOCIETY

The Magic Carpet. PHOTO: SINGAPORE CRUISE SOCIETY

The Magic Carpet is a concept exclusive to the Edge-series cruise ships. The venue is a cantilevered platform hanging off the ship’s starboard (right) side. It mainly serves as a Bar and Restaurant, moving up and down throughout the ship’s many decks. Guests will find the Magic Carpet suspended off different decks at different times throughout the day!

At tendering ports however, the Magic Carpet magically transforms into a Tendering Platform, and becomes an extension of the Destination Gateway. For this purpose, the platform is lowered to Deck 2, and allows a seamless transition from ship to the Edge Launches.

The bar facilities also allows guests to freshen up with refreshments as soon as they return from their adventure.

Eden — Multi-level architectural masterpiece

An overview of Eden. PHOTO: CELEBRITY CRUISES

Located at Deck 5 aft, the exterior of Eden looks similar to Two70 on sister brand Royal Caribbean’s Quantum-class ships. But don’t judge a book by its cover. Inside, the space is worlds apart.

Designed to be bright and airy, Eden first wows guests with its three-deck-high, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, providing panoramic ocean views. Celebrity Cruises describes it as “a room that lives”, as the venue’s abundant lush greenery surrounds guests with nature. It is truly unlike anything we’ve seen before on land and at sea.

Breathtaking design aside, the multi-use space is used as a Cafe and Lounge —with plenty of plush seating found throughout the room. The entertainment team also uses the space for Dance Classes. Musicians often use Eden as a Stage for Live Music, Acoustic Sessions, and even Late-Night DJ Sets.

Eden is also home to the Eden Restaurant with an open-air kitchen, and the Eden Bar. Guests’ sense of smell will be stimulated by the aroma of freshly-prepared meals, or the fragrances from Herb Wall, used to cultivate the garnishes for the hand-crafted cocktails. Be sure to have a taste, when the restaurant is open for Dinner.

Resort Deck — Bringing The Sea Views Inside

Resort Deck overview. PHOTO: SINGAPORE CRUISE SOCIETY

The Resort Deck breaks marine design conventions with its asymmetrical layout, and was designed as an outward-facing space. Here, the sea has been made the main focus. No matter where guests find themselves at, sweeping ocean views are never too far away.

From the ship’s Pool Deck, you can see how the unconventional design allows for unobstructed views from the pool.

Just off the pool, you’ll find the Edge Cabanas - a closed-off enclave available for rent, if guests want more privacy.

The Rooftop Garden is described as an urban playscape, inspired by the playground from our childhood. The garden itself is home to many oversized art installations, and is the perfect place for some wandering and daydreaming.

The Rooftop Garden is also home to the Rooftop Garden Grill, serving up gourmet burgers, brisket, and barbecue.

Guest Wellness— Spa & Gym

Celebrity Edge brought aboard state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for their Wellness Facilities. Whether you’re breaking a sweat at the gym, or relaxing on one of the warm beds at the Spa, both facilities’ location at the front of the ship guarantees amazing sea views. The Spa and Gym are found on decks 14 and 15 respectively

The Retreat — Suite-Exclusive Experience

The Retreat is an exclusive service dedicated to Edge’s suite guests. The physical space occupies the forward portion of decks 15 and 16, and comprises private, suite-only facilities like a pool deck, sun deck, lounge and restaurant - Luminae at The Retreat. The space also houses the six Edge Villas -two-story residences with private terrace and plunge pool.

Apart from the facilities, Retreat guests also enjoy premium drinks and premium Wi-Fi included in the cost of their voyage.

Staterooms And Suites

Touring The Sky Suite

With the ship fully-booked out for the upcoming voyage to Australia, not many rooms were available for viewing. But the shipboard team worked their magic, and managed to locate an entry-level Sky Suite, so it can only get better from here!
