Day 3: Sea Day; Behind The Magic Aboard Icon | Icon of the Seas Preview

Our trip is drawing to an end, but we learnt so much more about Icon from the brains of the ship!

Day 3 aboard our Icon of the Seas Preview Cruise is a sea day. We may arrive in Miami tomorrow morning, but we still have one full day left to enjoy what Icon has to offer!

Meet Rover — Chief Dog Officer

We had the chance to meet Rover — Icon of the Seas’ “Chief Dog Officer”. According to Royal Caribbean International President & CEO Michael Bayley, The 6-month-old Golden Retriever’s job description is to bring “happiness and joy” to all the guests on board.

And as you can see in the video, she’s quite the crowd pleaser.

It’s also important to note that Rover is not on a schedule and her appearances are quite random. Mr. Bayley did also mention that the team is still learning about Rover’s routines. Hopefully Rover will make more appearances in the future!

Immersion Session — Galley Tour

Today, we learnt about what makes Icon of the Seas the Icon of Vacations through the Immersion Sessions hosted by the ship’s various departments. Our trip is quite short, and these really help us understand this amazing ship more! We attended the Galley Tour Immersion Session, which took us behind the scenes to the Main Dining Room Galley on Deck 3.

Meeting our guides

The sharings were done by the ship’s culinary team.

The pots here are heated by the ship’s boilers, and are used to make big batches of sauces, stocks, broths and gravy.

The food is plated on lines like these. Trays with the components of each dish would be placed into the warmers, and each plates takes about 30 seconds on average to get ready.

The culinary team uses placards like these as a visual guide on how to present each plate. Every dish has one of these placards.

Pastries and some desserts are made at this section as well.

The Bakery was busy producing bread for the dinner service later, as well as baguettes for the French Onion Soup to be served for dinner as well.

And this is where the used utensils are washed.

Stateroom Tours

Icon of the Seas has more than 20 Accommodation Categories, of which several are new to Icon. We managed to take a tour of most staterooms and suites, but here are some of our favourites:

Interior Plus

Comes with a walk-in wardrobe and vanity area, compared to the standard Interior cabin.

Panoramic Ocean View

The “panoramic” part comes from the fact that the window is part of the massive, 300-ton Aquadome structure. There is also a suite with a similar view — the Ocean View Panoramic Suite

Family Infinite Ocean View Balcony

A room that sleeps up to 6. The kids have their own space (behind the main doorway), complete with Bunk Beds and TVs for each bed. Comes with a split bathroom to make getting ready more efficient.

Surfside Family Suite

A suite designed for families, complete with a balcony and nook with windows, looking into the Surfside neighbourhood.

Ultimate Family Townhouse

And of course, it wouldn’t be Icon of the Seas without her flagship accommodation — the Ultimate Family Townhouse, complete with a white picket fence, mailbox and slide. Sleeps up to 8 guests, with 2 bathrooms.

Production Show - The Wizard of Oz

Duelling Pianos

We enjoyed our final night aboard Icon at Duelling Pianos, vibing the talented pianists and their friendly banter, as they wow’ed and entertained the crowd. Guests can also request songs, and we even saw a few dance!
