Disney's First Foray Into Asia

Disney Cruise Line will be coming to Singapore in 2025, as the cruise line has announced a partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board to homeport cruise ships exclusively in the city-state year-round, for around 5 years.

Singapore will be Disney's first foray into the Asia cruise market, following its maiden season into Australia in late-2023.

Southeast Asia: The Caribbean of the East

In a statement by Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations S Iswaran, he mentioned that "Disney Cruise Line's decision to home port in Singapore affirms our position as the region's premier cruise hub and major player in cruise tourism”. He also highlighted that Disney’s choice for a Singapore homeport “speaks volumes of our region's significant potential for cruise tourism, and to become, as some have described it, the Caribbean of the East.”

Disney Cruise Line has also mentioned that Singapore’s strategic location, world-class air connectivity and port infrastructure make it a thriving cruise hub in Southeast Asia. This will be conducive for fly-cruise guests, who can take advantage of Singapore’s air network connectivity.

Disney has also revealed the ship to sail their inaugural Asia season will be the former Global Dream for Dream Cruises. The cruise line had acquired the ship in 2022, promising to complete the vessel as a member of the Disney fleet. At 208,000 Gross Tons and with room for more than 6,000 guests, the ship will be the largest cruise ship in Asia, and enough to rival some of the world’s largest cruise ships.

The ship is also expected to run on methanol fuel - one of the first in the industry, and demonstrates Singapore's commitment towards greener and sustainable marine fuels.

Work to complete the ship will take place at the MV Werften Shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the direction of the Meyer Werft Shipyard, which has already delivered 3 ships to Disney, as well as Asian cruise ships Genting Dream and Spectrum of the Seas.
