Royal Caribbean is now set to return to China by 2024. After much optimism at their Q1 2023 Earnings Call for a China return in Spring/Summer 2024, the cruise line has now officially announced their return to Shanghai for May 2024.

Spectrum’s return to China comes after a two-year Homeport in Singapore from April 2022 to April 2024.

The First International Cruise Line To Return To China

According to a press release by Royal Caribbean China, Royal Caribbean is the first international cruise line to announce its return to China, after China’s National Transportation Authority released a pilot plan for the resumption of international cruise ships, and the Shanghai Municipal Government has passed the three-year action plan to promote the high-quality development of the cruise economy.

So What Will Replace Spectrum In Singapore?

Mere hours following the China announcement, Royal Caribbean also revealed that Spectrum will be passing on the baton for Singapore to Anthem of the Seas. No itineraries have been released as of yet, but according to a press release by Royal Caribbean, Anthem is slated to arrive in Singapore by “late-2024” and that more information will be made available ‘in the coming weeks’.

Debuting in 2015, Anthem is the second Quantum-class cruise ship, and shares many similarities with Quantum of the Seas, which homeported in Singapore from December 2020 to April 2022.

Keen readers from 2021 will also remember that we took a 12-Night trip aboard Anthem in December that year!
