Further developments surfaced in the Genting Hong Kong situation through the week as cruise brands under the company started making changes to their operations across their fleet.

Dream Cruises

World Dream (Singapore), Genting Dream (Hong Kong), Explorer Dream (Keelung)

Dream Cruises suspended new bookings for Singapore sailings on the World Dream on Friday, sharing that it was to “protect the interests of Dream Cruises’ guests”. The suspension of bookings will continue for two weeks until after the lunar new year holidays on 4th February. As of now, booked guests should still be able to proceed on their cruises as per normal.

A search on Dream Cruises booking system returned no results.

However, guests on Explorer Dream sailing out of Keelung are out of luck. Central News Agency (Taiwan) reported that local travel agencies received notice that Explorer’s cruises from January 24, 2022 have been cancelled, with the cruise line citing ‘changes in operations’. Guests on affected sailings will be issued a full refund. No sailings are hence bookable after the cancellations. The ship resumed sailings on December 31st, 2021 after a 6-month hiatus due to local pandemic restrictions.

Hong Kong has already suspended all cruises from the city, including World Dream’s cruises due to the recent heightening of pandemic measures.

Star Cruises

Star Pisces (Penang)

Star Cruises released a statement on 21st January announcing the cancellation of Star Pisces sailings after 25 January 2022. Citing similar “changes in operations” for the cancellations, the cruise line will be issuing full refunds of cruise fare and taxes.  A search on their booking system also returned no results. The ship just returned to operations last December on 22nd December 2021 and was offering 2-night ‘Langkawi Escape’ and 1-night ‘Straits of Malacca’ cruises.

No other ships in the Star Cruises fleet are currently on revenue operations.

Crystal Cruises

Biggest update for the luxury cruise brand would be a ship arrest order issued to Crystal Symphony by the Miami court over unpaid bunker fuel expense to Peninsula Petroluem’s Singapore unit.

The company filed a lawsuit against Genting Hong Kong after it owes nearly $3.5 million for fuel deliveries. These bills involve bills for deliveries to the Crystal Serenity in Miami dating back to December. The company also seeks to collect fuel bills for deliveries for Star Cruises’ Superstar Libra, dating back to 2017 as reported by TradeWinds earlier this week.

Crystal Cruises has similarly also suspended the ability to make new reservations for most of its cruises since last Wednesday afternoon.
