Genting Hong Kong, Dream Cruises parent company have been shrouded in financial woes after the German court blocked a lifeline fund release to the MV Werften shipyard, where the Global Dream was being constructed. The company finally filed to wind up the company with the Supreme Court of Bermuda and appointed provisional liquidators after they “exhausted all reasonable efforts” to negotiate with its creditors and stakeholders.

Dream Cruises operations to continue, for now

Dream Cruises, a subsidiary of Genting Cruise Lines, currently operates the ‘World Dream’ out of Singapore on 2- and 3- nights Super Seacation Cruises, or commonly as the Cruise-to-Nowhere sailings.

We reached out to Dream Cruises and the spokesperson for the cruise line shared that currently, ‘certain business activities’ not limited to the operations of cruises by Dream Cruises, will continue ‘in order to preserve and protect the core assets and maintain the value of the group’. No further comment was provided.

Hence, we could expect that for the time being, guests booked on World Dream for the following weeks out of Singapore will still be able to depart on their cruise to nowhere, until further announcements are made.

Hong Kong and Keelung?

As of now, due to pandemic-related measures set out by the Hong Kong government, the ‘Genting Dream’ has currently paused operations of similar cruise to nowhere sailings out of Hong Kong.

Explorer Dream recently restarted operations out of Keelung, Taiwan on 31st December 2021 after a 7 month hiatus due to the pandemic. However, local news sources stated that low occupancy rates, attributed to strict pandemic-related measures and short lead-in time for bookings after the resumption was announced led to cancellations of a few sailings in early January.

Dream Cruises has three ships in their fleet. Genting Dream in Hong Kong, World Dream in Singapore and the Explorer Dream in Keelung. The brand is also constructing the aforementioned Global Dream at the MV Werften shipyard in Germany.
